What is Time Attack?

The roots of time attack (also referred to as "super lap" or "tuner battles") are firmly planted in Japan where events were organized as a proving ground for tuning companies to demonstrate the performance difference between their "street tuned" cars. Time attacks are held at various circuits in Japan, although Tsukuba Circuit is the most legendary among JDM time attack participants and fans.

The time attack format is basically a circuit based event where competitors drive against the clock in an effort to set the quickest lap time around the course. As soon as the time attack concept migrated to the States, the popularity of it started to take shape in parallel with the growth of the import tuning industry. Small, grassroots level events started popping up and today, the industry has become hungry for a media savvy, professionally organized national platform where they can show their stuff in front of their fans, customers and a comprehensive collection of media outlets.

Why is Time Attack Relevant?

Time attack caters to the automotive youth market, primarily males between the age of 18-34. Because it allows virtually unlimited modifications of production vehicles, it is a performance showcase for automotive OEs, tire manufacturers and tuning companies. Time Attack features the latest in vehicle, tire and tuning technology and the hottest vehicle platforms. And it is at the cutting edge of new vehicle segments such as the B-segment minis (Honda Fit, NIssan Versa, Toyota Yaris). Some consider time attack to be "the next big thing" after drifting.
